THE ONLY MIXTAPE OF ITS KIND -- RECORDED LIVE ON STAGE, IN ONE TAKE.
J.PERIOD & Black Thought’s collaborative and improvisational performance series, The Live Mixtape, is just that: a hip hop mixtape, performed and recorded live on stage, in one take, by one of hip hop’s all-time great MCs and one of its most groundbreaking DJs.
In the spirit of J.PERIOD’s award-winning “musical documentary” mixtape series, “The Live Mixtape” weaves songs, narrative elements, remixes and more into a new kind of hip hop stage show — equal parts musical storybook and freestyle MC cypher.
Both high-energy and high-concept, each Live Mixtape performance is unique, with its own theme. Shows are both planned and highly improvisational, and no two shows are ever the same.
Past shows include tributes to James Brown (NYC) and Jay Dilla (Miami), crowd-rocking sets featuring surprise guests at Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, and headlining performances at the Manifesto Festival (Toronto).
