REST IN PEACE | RICH NICHOLS
This week the music community, the J.PERIOD family, and The Legendary Roots Crew lost one of its greatest minds and most amazing people, Richard Nichols. As longtime manager of The Roots, Rich has been instrumental in every aspect of the band’s creative and strategic approach since its inception, and been a teacher, mentor and friend to countless musicians over the years, including J.PERIOD. We here at JPERIOD.com are deeply saddened by this loss and join our friends at Okayplayer in paying tribute to this great, great man.
The Roots have released an official statement:
“The Roots Family are devastated to announce the passing of Richard Nichols, the band’s longtime manager, after a long battle with leukemia. Nichols, 55, a Philadelphia native, managed the band from its inception in 1992, and was instrumental in every aspect of The Roots’ creative, cultural, and professional life over the past two decades. Nichols is survived by his wife, Mercedes Martinez, his sons Amiri Nichols and Rakim Nichols, his sisters Rochelle Nichols-Solomon, Rebecca Dennis, his brothers Russell Nichols and Reginald Nichols, and the many individuals and artists he mentored in his lifetime.”
JPERIOD.com will be paying tribute to Rich Nichols in full in the coming months. #RIP
